The typical markup (300, 400%) on wines in Seattle restaurants is driving me crazy. Are there any restaurants with really reasonable or (egads!) inexpensive wine lists that offer good value? A typical high-markup example: a cab that retails for $20 and the restaurant sells for $42.
What I mean by good value: A wine that retails for $16 and sells for $22 is good value, for example. What I do not mean: a restaurant with alot of inexpensive selections (e.g., bottles that retail for $6 or $8 and are on the list for $22). A restaurant doesn't have to gouge to make money: A zin that retails for $30 and is on a list for $35 is a good value that still makes money for the restaurant, say $15 over wholesale. Sparks Steakhouse in NYC is a great example. Any recommendations for Seattle?
