The great Turkish restaurant in Cliffside Park has an intriguing next-door-neighbor. I've forgotten the name, but the sign calls it a "patisserie," even though it seems to be Turkish and not affiliated with Kervan.
Every time I go to Kervan, I take home several orders of eggplant salad, but when they were busy, it's often impossible to cadge extra loafs of the wonderful pide. The best they could do for me Saturday night was some supermarket pocket pita bread.
The "patisserie" offered all manner of desserts, but I was especially intrigued by the huge pides, which cost only one dollar. I decided to freeze two of them when I came home, and defrosted one and put it in the toaster oven last night, and the result was wonderful -- a wonderful, slightly crispy exterior, and a puffy interior, and a wonderful delivery vehicle for the eggplant salad. Also tried some savory cheese bourek, which was fine, if unspectacular.
Anyone have any tastes of the desserts? The coffee?
