REAL Thai Cooking - Chao Thai, Elmhurst

jameswing | Jun 2, 200808:42 AM

85-03 Whitney Avenue in crowded Elmhurst; good specials of the day on a warm spring sunny evening. Place small w/about 10 tables but very friendly, helpful waitresses. Have them translate the specials posted near the kitchen door which is in Thai. Good but more costly than the standard fare. Food is in the hot to very hot category in terms of chili effect to the tongue. Need lots of cold water or their $2 iced Thai tea or coffee w/milk.
We had an excellent deep fried sea bass special in a lime-papaya-mango sauce. DELICIOUS!!! The rest of the main entrees good: crispy pork w/green beans (E13 on the menu) but avoid the soup dishes - murder to the tongue. Cash only. On-street parking tough on weekends.
