"Real" Chablis?

There have been a few discussions here (or maybe it was on Not About Food) recently about chardonnay with no oak, or Chablis in particular with posts referring to "real", or "classic" Chablis, which in the context of these posts seems to suggest that the use of wood in this AOC is something less than traditional. Yet, winemakers in Chablis were raising their wine in wood long before anyone dreamed of a stainless steel tank.

So, what does "real" or "classic" Chablis mean to you?
