PLEASE READ!! INFO RE: OUR IMPROVED MESSAGE BOARDS!

The Lead Dogs | Sep 26, 199903:50 AM

Welcome to Chowhound Starship Mellencamp.

Bob(TM) has added features that will make these boards much more convenient to use. We'll let most of them be pleasant surprises, but there are two things you need to know:

1. After composing a message and clicking the "post this message" button, you're shown a new window offering you a chance to edit, cancel, or post. If you don't click one of the "post" buttons at this point, your message WILL NOT POST! So don't forget to wait for this intermediary window (it takes some getting used to, especially since it looks like the old "thanks for posting!" window which we're all used to ignoring!)

2. We've added a much-needed feature: you can now change a discussion's subject title when replying. Lots of new people will be showing up soon, and we're counting on you regulars to set a good example with this new feature. Please read carefully:

It's always best to start a totally new thread when a discussion's subject drifts. So only reply with a new subject title if you think it's important to keep your reply tied linked the message it's replying to (oh, and if the person you're replying to has drifted badly without changing title, please change title in YOUR reply...better late than never!).

Don't change titles for minor drift...titles don't have to match EXACTLY. And please avoid frivolous subject changes...we don't want to splinter discussion by having nearly every reply sport a new title.

Once again, please try, whenever possible, to start new threads rather than reply with a changed subject (otherwise ultralong threads will clog our indexes).

Please don't reply here...if you have questions or comments, email us (webmaster@chowhound.com) or leave a message on the "Site Talk" message board--accessed from just beneath the map on our homepage.
