I've been reading this site up and down for food recs and I thank you all for your past input and any further input you could provide. My husband and I have a 2 year old and another on the way. We are thinking of making the move from Los Angeles to the RDU area (exact area undecided) in 2017. There are a lot of things about moving cross-country that are daunting, but basically our #1 favorite thing is eating- so food matters. Coming from L.A., we are fortunate to have a pretty good offering of a variety of cuisines (not the best bbq, though!) We like anything from little hole in the walls to fine dining, so any recs for good food would be appreciated.
Just to give you a frame of reference, here's a list of the places we went to on our last visit (and our humble thoughts on each place):
-Herons, which we didn't much like (ambiance and presentation were pretty good, but the food was mediocre).
-Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen for a chicken sandwich, yum!
-The Pit for ribs/fried chicken- delicious by LA standards, but I see on CH there are better reviewed bbq joints.
-Sawasdee Thai, had better kho soi than I've had in LA
-Alpaca Peruvian, top notch "fast food"
-Dames, amazing chicken and waffles (we have a chain famous in LA called Roscoe's- we have sworn never to return there after Dames' version)
Things I will especially miss about the LA food scene: Ethiopian food, Asian food (Chinese, Japanese/sushi, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai), street tacos and Mexican food (particularly Oaxacan), and In-n-out. :) I look forward to visiting RDU over the next few months, the next trip being in 2 days! We also like to cook, so recs for good places to source good exotic spices/meats/ingredients would also be appreciated.
