Last week I noted in another thread that Raymond's Fine Dining, a.k.a. Raymond's Asian Gourmet, f.k.a Hop Woo (with the exterior signage still remaining) on the corner of Main and Garfield in Alhambra had closed down, and that a sign in the door had promised the opening of an internationally famous restaurant franchise in the location. Days later the new restaurant has opened and it's called--Raymond's Asian Gourmet. A lot has changed. The Hop Woo sign has finally been taken off the exterior of the building. The menu is completely different. The lobster and all of the other specials are gone, replaced by a menu where everything is $10 or higher. The fabulous lemon chicken, which I consider to last link to the old ABC Seafood in Chinatown and its reign as probably the best Chinese restaurant in the US from the mid 1980s into the 1990s, is gone. And we get a restaurant that still calls itself Raymond's. I feel cheated.
