Ray Sushi in Hayward

My dad and I tried this place today for lunch at the bar section and was served by the owner Ray himself. Here is my account:

Combo sashimi plate : the usual tuna, salmon, hamachi and the white coloured fish (toro?) were cut generously into large pieces maybe 2"x1"x1/2". The fish all tasted decent but nothing outstanding I thought. We also got the SB uni that was pretty good.

Ankimo pate was a first for me. Quite good but the flavor was not as intense as I liked.

We mistakenly ordered the manila? clam which came in a bowl and some broth. Not particularly tasty but just decent.

Amaebi with the head deep fried was not as sweet as I had hoped. The head was not as crunchy either.

Unagi nigiri was just ok. The eel was a bit fishy/not as fresh and the sauce and the rice was not that great.

Oyster in half shell was pretty good with a nice sauce.

Crab nigiri was also not outstanding IMO.

Tempura red bean ice cream was unusual. Just ok.

We did not get a bowl of miso, not sure if they forgot or not. We did get the usual edamame and a nice tea.

Total was around $70 before tips.

I will probably try other places before coming back. I think the Yen sushi bistro on A street maybe better based on my previous visit.
