Ravi Chatkhara in Arlington - Report

Steve | Oct 16, 201402:51 PM     6

This was my second visit to Ravi Kabob's next door venue of chaat and sandwiches featuring chicken or 'pressed meat' shawarma.

My first visit I tried the chicken which looked good like piles of chicken skewered on a rotisserie. But ultimately there was something mildly distasteful about the whole thing. Surprisingly greasy with a nasty tzatziki sauce.

My second visit I was served the worst papri chaat I've ever had. It was served icebox cold so the potatoes and chickpeas had an off texture. On top was mostly a yogurt sauce with a sweet red sauce squeezed over it. I was told the sweet sauce was mango based, but I couldn't tell. I asked for some green hot sauce, but all they had was more yogurt sauce with a tiny bit of heat added.

The chai has an odd, vegetal taste, almost like they added powdered spinach. Someone on Yelp said it was Kashmiri chai, but I don't know if that accounts for the flavor.

I have not seen anyone in this place, and I imagine everyone is avoiding it, for good reason.
