Just typed a long report and somehow the computer lost it....sorry. So here's the brief synopsis:
A very good dinner but not perfect...but I'm so jaded from several nights of heavy eating that I'm probably a poor judge.
Our group of 11 had the private room off the bar: nice for a group and quiet with pretty views, but those big windows that create the views also created drafts...I was FREEZING.
This places advertises itself as "farm to fork.": ie all locally grown sustainable foods that come from within 150 miles. I certainly like the concept.
And the chicken soup I had (mostly because I hoped it would help me warm up!) had the most "chickeny" rich broth I had ever tasted: clearly that chicken was properly raised and hadn't seen any hormones...yum.
I wish my shrimp were as good (shrimp and grits). In fact, I was trying to figure out where shrimp were raised within 150 miles of Charlotte....and the first one I bit into tasted
like it had made a somewhat longer trip. I almost told the waiter, but all the others tasted just fine, and I didn't want to create a scene in front of my colleagues. The bits of ham on the dish were wonderful....I could happily have eaten "ham and grits...." I had a side of collard greens and they were excellent.
I pre-ordered the Grand Marnier Souffle as required, and thought as it was served that I wouldn't be able to eat a bite. But it was light and fluffy and wonderful...so I ate it all.
I definitely will be back...I travel to Charlotte frequently on business and Ratcliffe is very close to our usual hotel....
