Ranges- vintage vs new

We're starting to plan our kitchen remodel and are trying to decide between a restored vintage cast iron range like an O'Keefe and Meritt or a Chambers and a new "commercial" style range like a Viking or what-have-you. Half the posts I read talk about how cute but terrible old ranges are; half the posts talk about how they are the greatest thing to cook on ever. What is a person to think?
