Sure do seem to be a lot of interesting new places opening up - I think we are going thru a good stretch of openings, with coco500, zuppa, maverick (have not been), the much talked about delfina pizzeria, and range, plus others i am sure i am omitting.
also seems to be a clear trend towards (a) pizza and (b) upscale comfort food.
range falls into the latter.
on the 2nd nite of service, went to the redone timos - very attractive - and was really impressed.
we tried the grilled fennel salad, the albacore appetizer (served sashimi style) and the pork entree-all 3 were excellent, well priced (I forget exact pricing but apps are around 8-11 and entrees stay in the teens), good flavors, portion size, etc. The kitchen was experimenting and sending out lots of freebies for people to try so the 3 things we ordered sufficed.
A few odd gaps but nothing at all terrible given the newness of the restaurant and our server was downright compentant, knowledgeable and efficient. I think a lot of the staff may have followed the owner/chef from bacar, which may help.
I definitely recommend Range based on this one experience!
