There are no more ramps (wild leeks) sold at Union Square Greenmarket. I went there today and was told that they're completely gone for the season. Just letting you know so that some of you won't end up disappoint ed like me and others were today. I wish there were a way for ramps to be around for longer, but it looks like they can only grow for a very short period of time in the spring
Terhune had them today at UN market.
Mountain Sweet Berry has stellar ramp pesto in Union Square for $10 small container.
Spring onions are around at many vendors.
Never knew about Terhune, thanks. Fingers-crossed they'll have some on Saturday.
Mountain Sweet Berry said that the ramp pesto (and ramps) will no longer be available after today.
If you are really set on ramps, take a look at WholeFoods; they sell them by the pound. Not sure if they are still available, though, but you can phone first.
I'm sorry I did not buy the ramp pesto as it was really good. As I recall, it contained cashews but cannot remember the other ingredients. (Ricotta?
Lemon?Parmesan?)
With the escalating popularity, let's just hope there will be enough ramps around to satisfy everyone in coming years.
Wow, that was quick. From the look of things, I wouldn't have guessed that Saturday was the second-to-last day they'd have them.
The end of the season is certainly very close, if not in fact upon us, but try other vendors/other days before giving up entirely. Just because one is done for the year doesn't mean others won't have still them. I bought several bunches from Mountain Sweet Berry Farm on Saturday and they were beautiful; they had none of the scruffy look they usually have at the end of their run...
I noticed that too yesterday at Union Square. Season seemed incredibly short this year.
I was at Union Square this morning around 10:30. Berried Treasures had tons of ramps.
There are still tons of ramps at the Greenmarket. The end of the season is around the corner, but ramps are still abundant at the farmer's market.
I just bought a few packages of seeds. Will ask my dad to plant them so hopefully next year, I will have some for free.
Got some last weekend upstate at Lucky Dog farm store in Hamden NY, I'm sure they'll have them for a little while longer. Amongst other things, I made a hotdog relish with ramps, fine diced bread and butter pickles w/ onions from Lucky Dog, turmeric, cumin, salt and pepper - haute doggy. The growing season is a few weeks behind on the other side of the catskill mountains.
