Are ramps coming up in Central NJ?

New Jersey Ramps

I've been out looking in places where I'm told they grow, but no sightings yet. Have people seen them?

Suspect that the ramps you saw at Whole Foods are from the South. The cold, snowy winter we had has delayed local ramps.
There were ramps in a dish I had on Thursday evening at a restaurant in Brooklyn. Server told me they were from Georgia.

I've looked in Roosevelt Park in Edison and Scooley's Mountain in Long Valley and saw nothing. I suspect that if they're coming up, they're either being poached, or taken by food enthusiasts.

$14.99/lb @ Wegman's in Bridgewater. Very nice looking. It'll take a little time to check out: the 4-digit code for ramps isn't in the store's computer and the check-out person will need a manager to manually enter it. In the meanwhile, you can provide a bit of a culinary education to other customers and check-out people, who were all wondering what the *@+!? those things are, why they're worth $14.99/lb. (are they?, you be the judge) and what you can do with them.

File under #GMA@B: one excellent Bucks County farm market has ramps for $24.99/lb. and one vendor at the otherwise fabulous Stockton (NJ) Farmers Market wants $30/lb. As I recall, crack cocaine was cheaper. Let's see if Wegman's still has them for $14.95/lb.
