There is a great article on them in the most recent food section of the Washington Post. Forgive me if you know this already, but they're Allium tricoccum, or wild leeks. Apparently the Mountains of West Virginia are Ramp heaven, and there are a ton of festivals dedicated to them and many, many fans. You forage for them. Wow.
I'm just curious - has anyone participated in this activity? Is it worth a trip to the mountains (although it's probably wonderful down there in April)?
