Rami's--yes and no

Coyote | Jun 2, 2002 03:39 PM

So glad Rami's was suggested by Alan H and by Galley girl. The Framingham spot was very clean, the staff more than helpful, even allowing us a taste of the falafel before making a decision to try it. Will add to list of must includes in the monthly chow rotation.

First the disappointments, then the raves.

The baba ganooj just wasn't nearly as good as I'd hoped. Too acid, and not even a hint of smoke flavor. I've had and liked different styles, this isn't like any I've enjoyed. Wouldn't buy it again. As warned, pita is offered frozen to take home, thaw and reheat. Not bad, Near East is an OK brand, but will be checking Mr. Aubern St. for fresh baked pita next. And, I guess the guys were in a rush at the counter--they failed to place a lid on the baba ganooj before jamming the lidded houmos on top. You can imagine the mess when I unpacked the bag.

Anyway--the houmos was FANTASTIC, creamy, the right balance between tahini and lemon, just perfect. But, the Falafel in Pita with hot sauce and salad on top was INCREDIBLE. Definitely chick pea based falafel loaded with cumin. Dubious spouse fell in love with it too. Might not have tried it had I not carefully perused Galleygirl's review of the falafel at the other Rami's location. All she said about the falafel was true. An absolute must have. Next up--Rami's shawarma. Or no? Anyone had it?
