◎◎ Uses for radiattore? ◎◎

I am not crazy about using elbow macaroni or other tubular pasta for macaroni and cheese. It seems like these shapes don't drain as well as I'd like, nor does the cheese sauce get inside the tubes completely. Lately I've been using radiattore (sometimes labeled "ruffles") and like the results. What type of sauce did the creators of radiattore intend them for?
