Quintessential New York...

ilivevicariouslythroughnigella | Apr 21, 2008 07:06 AM

Hi there,

I'm a Torontonian headed to New York this Thursday through Sunday and am looking for suggestions. I am staying at the Marriott in Brooklyn, but anticipate spending most of my time in Manhattan. I've been to New York a few times, but have not been able to discover the city and all that it has to gastronomically offer due to the short duration of my trips. So, what spots *must* I visit to get a true sense of New York? My short preliminary list includes:

The dosa man
Flute
La Maison du chocolate/Jacques Torres
Babycakes
Lombardi's
Cafe Centro (meeting a friend there, his suggestion)

Please help me fill in the gaps for breakfast/lunch/dinner (especially dessert/sweets) and places to get a drink. I'm willing to travel for great food so bring on the recommendations! I'm on a limited budget, but am willing to splurge for things that are truly worth it. My list is not set in stone so if I should steer clear of any of the places I've mentioned please let me know. I'll report back on my experiences and am willing to offer advice should any one be travelling to Vancouver or Toronto.

Thanks in advance!
