Quick Trip Report - Taco Sabroso, Austin

Pssst | Mar 29, 2006 12:07 PM

After 9 hours of prep & travel, we arrived in Austin at 1pm on Saturday tired, hungry and determined to gorge on all the foods I miss so desperately.

Luckily, Taco Sabroso is close to the airport so we bolted straight there and ordered a variety of tacos.

They arrived with several hot sauces, all of which were tasty. While all the tacos were good, the al pastor was great! The pork was a deep glistening red from heavy use of paprika/achiote which resulted in a wonderfully flavorful taco.

My California-born Mexican-Italian husband said "This is the best al pastor I've ever had." I said "Ha, blindfolded and nekkid (sin salsa) this cheap, simple Texas taco could kick one of those bland No. California tacos to the curb any day of the week."

With the al pastor v. al pastor match up settled, we began imaging all sorts of other taco cage-matches -- gamey birria v. smooth lengua, who would win in a dark alley?

We drove off satisfied and happy that we had 3 more days of eatin' in front of us.
