Had a great time in Vegas last weekend, with some old favorites and a couple of excellent new discoveries. Sorry this is so rushed.

MON AMI GABI – At Paris. This is becoming one of my favorite places on the Strip. Reasonable, with excellent food. Sometimes the service can be slow, but I think it is because it is so damn busy. My bud and I started with the goat cheese appetizer, which is goat cheese mixed with a few other cheeses and herbs, topped with a tomato sauce and served with bread for dipping. It just does not get any better than this. The Frisee salad with bacon and blue cheese is very good and we both had excellent Steak Frites. This was my fifth time at Mon Ami and I have enjoyed it every time.

WYNN BUFFET – We went to the hotel to see what it was like and ended up eating the Saturday Brunch Buffet. It compared favorably to the Bellagio Buffet … in fact, there were many things I liked better about it. Lots of excellent choices.

FIX – At The Bellagio. This has also become one of my favorite places in Vegas. The food is excellent and very creatively presented. Three of us went, and we started with the kobe beef mini hamburgers, which were just awesome. My roast chicken was outstanding; my two friends had the drunken lobster and the scallops and both were terrific as well. I am not a mashed potato fan, but the mashed with my chicken were about as good as I have had. And of course, there is the side dish of Adult Mac-n-Cheese. You have to see and taste this to believe it.

WOLFGANG PUCK BAR AND GRILL – At MGM. This was one of the pleasant discoveries. We ended up going there twice for drinks, even though I am not fond of MGM, and both times had incredible food at the bar. The pizzas were outstanding. I tried to go back a third time for a sit down meal but they had closed already. I really look forward to going back.

GIORGIO’S – In Mandalay Place between Mandalay Bay and Luxor. Another great find. I had a bowl of pasta at the bar late one afternoon, the Pappardelle & Sausage. Beautifully done dish, fresh homemade pasta, sausage, everything. I want to go back to this place again for a full meal as well. If not, I will always stop to get a bowl of pasta. Also reasonable.

TheCafe at theHotel – This is the 24 restaurant in theHotel section of Mandalay Bay. Nice atmosphere and very good food. Excellent breakfasts and this time, I had a steak and brie sandwich that I loved.
