two quick reviews for asheville

i tried jerusalem garden last weekend and had a great time. i'm a novice to middle-eastern cuisine (any area recommendations would be much appreciated), so can't compare, but can say i enjoyed it. we ordered several appetizers and shared. the falafel balls were fantastic (i could eat myself seriously sick on those),the hummus was tasty but not as spicy as the one i make at home (still good, tho). the best part, however, was the entertainment. the restaurant brings in a belly dancer (she was fantastic) and muscians (also very good) on fri & sat nights. they do take reservations, and i would suggest sitting in the front room for a better view of the entertainment (although the belly dancer does circulate throughout the place). also very nice atmosphere; nicely decorated and i liked the ceiling (it's draped in themed fabric - it was a nice break from the exposed & painted old tin ceilings you find many places around here, not that i don't like that as well, it's just seems so ubiquitous). not too expensive either. we shared three apps, had a couple drinks, and got out for under $35 including tip (tipped the entertainers separately).

also tried the black oak public house (in hendersonville) for lunch. this is a new establishment on main st. similar to hannah flannigans/jack of the wood. i had the bbq duck samdwich; very tasty tho a little dry. my wife had the turkey club, which she said was good. mine came with a very good, mustardy potato salad & the potatoes were cooked perfectly. hers came with a ginger cole slaw, which she disliked, but i added to my list of very good slaws. they have inside, deck & sidewalk seating.
