Quick Review - Il Cielo

My gf and I received a gift certificate to Il Cielo and decided to use it the other week. Our last experience there was pretty lackluster, with indifferent service and slightly above average dishes (it was brunch on Saturday). We came back for a Friday evening dinner and it was a complete 180. The staff was informative and very nice/accomodating.

I had a lovely burrata cheese and seasonal tomatoes appetizer. I am not too well versed in burrata, but this stuff was GREAT. Very soft and creamy-like - which beats the pants off of some of the caprese salads I have had in this town. My main was a veal chop served with potatoes I believe (my memory fails me). Veal chop pretty decent - a bit overcooked - but decent.

GF had the endive salad, which was fine - good use of gorgonzola cheese. For her main she had the John Dory, which was buttery and served with some nice side veggies (roasted carrots).

Dessert was a let down - I had a bitter apple tart and she had a bummer-of-a flourless chocolate cake.

Overall - pretty good if I do say so myself. I really do like the outside area, and at night - it's pretty damn romantic. This place beats Little Door hands down (cheesy Italian pop music in the background aside). I think Il Cielo has cleaned up its act, at least after this last visit.
