These are the places we hit during our recent week at the beach (I think I got them all):
Rehoboth Diner, Rte 1 (first visit): Perfectly fine for a standard breakfast -- oatmeal, pancakes, eggs, etc. Coffee was pretty bad (had that diner bitterness).
Big Fish Grill, Rte 1 (repeat visit): As good as ever.
Lupo di Mare, Rehoboth Ave. (first visit): Excellent. Great drink list, like all SoDel joints, really fresh swordfish, perfectly cooked pasta, etc.
JD's Filling Station, Savannah Rd, Lewes (second visit): Excellent breakfast! Very nice greek omelet with capers (oh joy), fruit plates, etc and really good coffee.
Go Fish!, Rehoboth Ave (repeat visit): Mrs. W took the kids while I browsed at Browseabout Books. Still very good for fish and chips.
Saketumi, Rte 1 (first visit): Very good sushi and other dishes. They make lo mein with udon instead of the usual thinner noodles, a nice change. Rock shrimp tempura, shu mai, etc.
Casapulla's South, Rte 1 (repeat visit): As always, delicious, generously proportioned subs.
Grotto's, Boardwalk and also Grotto's Grand Slam, Rte. 1 (umpteenth repeat visits): Plain cheese pizza, meatballs, gelato. Either you like it or you don't. We like it.
Betty's American Grill, Rte 1, Midway(FKA Betty's Pure and Simple) (second visit): Overall, really good, but Mrs. W's plate of crabcakes, very fresh sweet corn, and steak fries was somewhat marred by an overzealous application of Old Bay. The fried veggie app was much better than you might think, close to tempura.
Crabby Dick's, Rte 1 (second visit): Crab expert Mrs W. said the crabs were very good, just not as good as last year's.
Surf Bagel, Rte 1, Lewes (first visit): Wow, was this place packed on a Saturday morning. Nice folks, and a good version of what I think of as beach bagels, which are softer than what I like, but theirs were fresh and in some cases hot.
Lewes Bake Shoppe/Notting Hill Coffee Roastery, Second St, Lewes (repeat visit): Excellent coffee, baked goods, and mango smoothies.
King's Ice Cream, Second St, Lewes (first visit): Great!
Hopkins Farm Creamery, Lewes-Georgetown Hwy, Lewes (first visit): Great! And really cute calves too. This has got to be the freshest ice cream on the planet, given that the cows are right there.
Note: every single place we tried, even the more upscale like Lupo Di Mare and Saketumi, are VERY family friendly. They all have kids' menus and have nice, patient servers. Kudos to all.
