Made my record fifth trip to Maine this past weekend, and had some great food (DUH)
Paciarino, Portland: Cozy, pasta-centric spot on Fore St. Food was delicious (crostinis, salame plate, pastas, and tiramisu). Was Plan B after we couldn't get a table at Piccolo at our desired time, but it worked out great.
Gelato Fiasco, Portland AND Brunswick: Yep, double-dipped at the GF. Had the dark chocolate noir, wild blueberry crisp, straciatella, and another fruit flavor. Outstanding
Standard Baking Company, Portland: One quick visit scored a seeded fougasse, a plum frangipane tart, a pain au chocolate, and a fig friand (mini pound cake). Out of these delights, the biggest hit was the tart. Amazing.
Tao Yuan, Brunswick: Got the 15-plate tasting dinner for $68, and it was crazy good. Huge variety of tastes, textures, and ingredients. Also, since I'm a sucker for craft cocktails made with obscure, offbeat ingredients, I tried one called (IIRC) "Peach, Plum. Pear." Actually, I tried two of them. 8<D
Sue's Seafood, Kittery: The perfect way to leave the state, with a beautiful lobster roll. For $10.95, not huge, but the quality is tops.
Looking forward to 2017!
