Quiches & Brownies & Madelines – OH MY!! Upscale in El Cerrito (near BART)

rworange | Jan 24, 200612:46 AM

As mentioned in a post (linked below), Lola’s of Berkeley is now selling baked goods and other food at the former J.R. Muggs coffee shop. This was the first time I stopped by since reading about the ownership change in the Contra Costa Times on Sunday.

In addition to the above items today there were also fresh-baked biscuits filled with Lola’s home-made blackberry jam.

Instead of that Egg McMuffin, grab a lovely mini-quiche with bacon to eat with your organic coffee on the BART ride to work. Lola’s house-made granola is also available. Jars of the jams and jellies are for sale too. There was a really lovely blood orange jam.

I stopped in at the end of the day, so don’t know how much else was available earlier. I had one of individual apple coffee cakes – rich and buttery with a touch of lemon and filled with apples. From other visits at Lola’s I can say the Madelines would make Proust proud. Like Lola's, the baked good will be seasonal and changing.

Talking to the new owner it seems that eventually they will be offering Lola’s full line … soups, salads, strombolli, foccacia, calzone … and … even more than I could even hope for … Lola’s roast chicken. Lola’s chicken … near my home … almost as good as winning the lottery.

This is really could be a step up from Lola’s actually … there are tables to eat … there is organic coffee to drink with the baked goods … there is easy parking … they will run the order to your car (sigh of contentment). Oh yeah, they are planning to get WI-FI too.

They were giving out coffee bucks today, good for $1 off your next visit.

In the post below there are more details. However, I didn’t have the phone number. As mentioned, ifyou call, they will run your order out to the car.
