We were originally very keen to try this place. But then chefs Julio Guajardo and Kate Chomyshyn left and it closed. It opened again in March and we got around to trying it on Sunday. First of all, it was easy to get a table - it remained about 3/4 full through the time we were there (7:30-9:00).
We tried several cocktails, the most interesting of which was Crystal Visions, which had strong notes of celery, fennel, and strawberry. The ceviche mixto blended fresh sea bream and bay scallops with a tangy marinade and celery, avocado, and cucumber. We tried the slow-cooked lamb masa, which was delicious - the meat very tender and lamby. Roasted sunchokes were great, accompanied by a complex mole and crema. We had a small order of the green chorizo and should have ordered more. The only disappointment was the sweetbreads - great flavours and fresh corn, but undercooked (at least for my preference). Desserts were good, but not must-haves.
Service was really slow - our ceviche came out quickly, but then it was 30 minutes for our next dish and then almost another 30 minutes for the remainder. The staff apologized, explaining there had been a screw-up, and comped one set of cocktails and our desserts, which was nice.
We'd be happy to go again, particularly to try the other masa. Has anyone else gone since the reopening?
