My wife and I will be making a couple of days stop over in Miami before flying on to Cancun to attend a family member's destination wedding. We'll be staying in South Beach.
1) To us out-of-towners, is Joe's Stone Crab a must try destination? Are the plain sounding cold Stone Crab claws with mustard dipping sauce worth the money? Jumbo size, if available is well over USD 25 each! ( Up here in Canada, we have sweet tasting and meaty west coast Dungeness crabs which are not too shabby and way less expensive?! ).....or, shall we spend the money on say the Crab cake ( rare in Toronto ) and/or the Alaskan King Crab grilled with garlic oil ( sounds more interesting and pretty rare in Toronto too! )
2) We are both lovers of good Southern Fried Chicken. Initially, we were thinking of grabbing a couple of pieces from Publix before heading over to Joe's. However, to my amazement, I read Joe's also offers Fried Chicken at an unreal price. Reviews on other food blogs raved about it. How do they compare to the Publix version.....which we loved! Shall we skip Publix?
3) For a slightly more formal 'tasting menu' dinner the following night. We have narrowed down our choices to Alter, Stubborn Seed or Bazaar by Jose Andres. Whilst Alter require Uber/taxi transportation from South Beach to Downtown, the latter two are within walking distances from our hotel.
Resume of Alter's chef is mighty impressive and so are photos of his creation posted on various food blogs. Is it worth our making the relative long track to downtown? How about the other two choices? Any ' stand-out ' preferences?! Considering the rise in Jose Andres' reputation and elevated standings of his restaurants on Sam Pelligrino's World's best 100 list and walking distance from our hotel. Would this be a better choice?.......even though its seldom mentioned on publications like Time-Out...etc. As for Stubborn Seed?! With a 'Top Chef Winner' at the helm of the kitchen, what more can one say?
Decisions?! Decisions?! Decisions?!
Thanks in advance for your help local hounds!!
