Questions for Las Vegas natives

Katie Benes | Mar 27, 2001 03:09 PM

Hi all:

I've read all the posts about Las Vegas and I am grateful for all the solid advice about places to eat. Since I trust all you Chowhounds implicitly I was wondering if you all could help me out here. My husband is interviewing for a position with a company out there and I've never been there before. Altough we'd visit together before any final decision was reached, I'd like to hear from the natives. Can anyone that lives there tell me a little bit more about what it's like there? How is the quality of life? Cost of housing? Would a restaurant or wine professional like myself have a pretty easy time finding a job? What is the caliber of wine/management professionals there? Are there any really high caliber wine retail establishments? We currently live in Philadelphia and I have been a manager at several of the finer restaurants in town as well as currently working in the wine retail industry for the last year and a half (see link). I'd be thrilled to land a job as a sommelier at any one of the fine establishments there, or perhaps continue what I do now and work in retail management. If anyone could give me some clues on this I'd be eternally grateful. Please reply privately so as not to take up bandwidth on the Chowound board. My thanks in advance...
