alright, so here it is. i recently came up on a substantial and unexpected sum of money via a belated christmas bonus, and i'm thinking that the best thing to do with it is to spend it in the same manner. and since i absolutely never go out, i think for me that means sitting down in a nice restaurant, forgetting about everything else, and eating like it was the only thing that mattered in the world.
but let me preface this by saying that i have an extremely discerning palete, i've been a professional cook in NY for quite some time, i've eaten incredible sushi in Japan, but unfortunately i've never had the time or money to really check out one of the more serious restaurants in NY. but now is one of the best chances i think i'll ever have.
but something else to consider is that i'm going to go with someone who doesn't have a very discerning palete, has no idea what otoro, ama ebi, and uni are, but is excited just the same. and yes i'm definitely leaning towards a sushi restaurant (though it's not set in stone). and i'm not really interested in getting into a debate over new school vs traditional japanese. let's keep it strictly to the dining experience--for a few hours did the world become a little brighter? if so, that;s what i want to hear about. and lastly, although i would love to go, the bonus doesn't quite get me into Masa.
i'll start this off by saying that right now i'm leaning towards sushi of gari. but i would love to hear your thoughts...
