question about deveining shrimp

Inside most shrimp that I devein, I find either nothing but clean, white flesh, or the dark alimentary canal, which I remove (the whole point of deveining).

But sometimes, I find a orangish, mucous-like substance. It looks vaguely similar to the fat that crawfish are packaged in. So is it fat? Or does the digestive track look like this sometimes? Do I need to remove it?
