Hi. New member of the forums here. I live in Durham NC and I cook for just my wife and myself. Nothing fancy but we do like great food and so I try to keep our menu a bit more gourmet, less Hamburger Helper. We recently have decided to significantly cut down on our eating out so I have been evaluating our kitchen equipment and slowly replacing older, lower quality items with 'better'. Trying not to break the bank but also aiming for a level that is going to last likely the next 20 years or so.
So we have been using mostly cookware from a local restaurant supply we bought 18 or so years ago. Vollrath aluminum pans. The pans have held up well to the years of trips through the dishwasher. But the uncoated pans are looking grungy and the coatings on the non-stick stuff are all showing their age and have multiple chips and such. Time for them to go. So far I have replaced a large saute pan with a 4qt AllClad D5, an 8 inch NS fry/egg pan with a Mauviel M'steel 20cm fry pan, and added a AllClad D5 4qt Weeknite pan. Happy with all those choices so far.
The next item to go is a 12 inch NS fry pan. I had planned on getting a AllClad D5 12 inch NonStick skillet. But I am a cheapskate so I decided to poke around at the local TJMaxx and Marshalls to see what they had before heading to www.cutleryandmore.com. And I found something interesting.
Does anyone here have first hand experience with the Garcima Pata Negra pans? I paid $9.00 for a 28cm 'Sarten Llana con Mango Puliada' which on their website is translated as a fry pan with steel handle. I have not cooked with it yet but it looks and feels remarkably like the Mauviel pans. And Williams Sonoma sells the Garcima Paella pans. So I am inclined to think that I got a good deal. I know it is not a crazy deal like getting a AllClad pan for $9.00 but still cheap.
Any whos, I have been reading the forums here and have appreciated all the research and opinion that some posters here put into their comments on cookware. They have guided me a bit in my searches for new cookware. I look forward to hearing you folks opinion on some of my other choices. (I know some here are not fans of the AllClad D5 pans. But when you catch a great sell and have a discount to add to such, they end up being hard to pass up.)
