I just got back from a few weeks in NYC, where I used to live, and ate as often as I could at the fabulous La Esquina Taqueria in the area now known as NoLita (Kenmare & Cleveland Square). All their tacos are amazing, from veal tongue to cochinita pibil. Their hongo y epazote taco is amazing: seasonal mushrooms, epazote, hominy, queso blanco & rice. Great quesadillas with queso chihuahua or oaxaca. http://esquinanyc.com/menu_taqueria.html
My point is that although I have avoided trying after bad experiences with burritos at places like Benito's Hat, I am now on the lookout for decent tacos. I have not tried Wahaca because I've heard mixed reviews. I am thinking of trying Lupita tomorrow, but should I wait until the glory of NYC tacos fades from my memory? The menu doesn't say what cheese they use - does anyone know? Hopefully it is Mexican and not some made-up gloop. Thanks!
