I'm not a big fan of neighborhood newspapers...they usually lack the firewalls between editorial and advertising larger papers at least pretend to maintain. As for the restaurant reviewing, it's often writers with their photos above the column who love everything and focus on advertisers.
This diatribe isn't aimed directly at Queens Tribune...I'm sure I've read the paper, but can't really remember their deal. If they're a bastion of journalistic integrity and sincere food writing, I apologize.
Anyway, take a look at link below with a grain of salt....BUT....there are some dumb things, some smart things, and (most intriguingly) quite a few things I didn't know about. Good leads.
