Quail's Inn Dinner House/ Lake San Marcos (not a glowing review)

My sweetie and I decided to give the newly renovated and reopened Quail's a try for dinner. He had stopped by before they actually opened to grab a new menu so we could check it out. There were many things that sounded good, and it was tough to pass up the numerous interesting appetizers. But alas, we resisted. I ordered the sundried cherry crusted salmon, which was served with a saffron buerre blanc, garlic mashed potatoes and balsamic wilted spinach. BLECH! None of it tasted like the description. The salmon was of average quality at best. The "cherry crust" was tasteless, it's only saving grace being the sauce which there was hardly any of. The potatoes were very dry, the spinach was decent, but it was seriously four, maybe six at the most, small wilted leaves. My sweetie had the shrimp pomodoro which was shrimp, prosciutto, spinach, tomatoes, and orchiette pasta in what was supposed to be a tomato basil sauce. The sauce was almost non existent, and certainly was not a tomato based sauce. Neither of us could detect even the faintest taste of basil. Aside from the prosciutto, it was rather bland. The best part of the meal was by far the dinner salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Ehhh, I wouldn't bother with it again. The new menu sounds intriguing in theory, but in practice it was sub-par.
