An extension of the original Q's Halal Chicken in Alameda, Q's Halal Pizza in Richmond serves up some of the most popular menu items AND pizza with Afghan and Mediterranean flavors. I had lunch there on September 11 for my annual tradition of eating halal to mark the day and support a Muslim-American business.
The set-up is mostly for take-out and delivery orders. But there are a handful of small tables for eating in a room decorated with a colorful mural of the Bay.
This is the 16" small Mama Mary's pizza with lamb gyro, beef pepperoni and red onion, $18. The staffer said he hoped I didn't mind that he served it in the box, since eating alone I'd have lots of leftovers. I appreciated that he read my mind.
The crust's very thin, crisp around the charred edges with a bit of chew and cut into 16 narrow slices. If you like NY-style, this is the pie for you. A lot of cheese and a bit undersalted, but otherwise quite delicious. Even though there's no naked crust around the rim, I was given some ranch dressing for dipping. Adding a little hot sauce popped out more flavor. I'd get this again.
A steady stream of customers came in for to-go orders. Staff were friendly and efficient. I like this spot.
