What gives here?
I love Montreal. I grew up not far away (on the NY side of the River) and pass through about once a year when I visit my relatives. Montreal is about the same size as San Francisco, where I live, but the number of postings on the Montreal board is a mere fraction of those on the SF board.
I know Montreal has a great food heritage. There is probably no place in the US that can equal Montreal in the baked goods, dairy and maybe even cured meats departments. Crepes? Frites? Lobster? Mussels? I have only an inkling of what pleasures Montreal holds in Continental and middle-eastern foods. (I have to admit that I tend to avoid expensive and pretentious cuisines in the US, but I'm guessing that Montreal has great and affordable French fare). And hey, let's not forget the great microbreweries of Quebec.
My chagrin is that there isn't more information posted here for the likes of me, who can't be in town long enough to do my own research. Maybe Montrealers are reticent (NOT!). Maybe you would rather eat than talk about it (people tend to err in the other direction on the San Francisco Board).
Maybe it's the language thing. Does Chowhound discourage or prohibit Francophone posting? I'd gladly exhume what's left of my 40-year old High School and College French skills to learn more about what Montreal has to offer a chowhound.
