Put my foot in my mouth at Fifth Floor

MSK | Apr 1, 200612:56 AM

Oh, I feel so silly.

We had a wonderful dinner last night at Fifth Floor.Service was wonderful, professional but with a sense of humor.

Fiddlehead fern salad (very unique)
Carmelized scallops with asparagus

Monkfish wrapped in Bacon with puree, artichoke mushrooms, clams
Duck breast

Special ordered the Valronna Choc with Guinness cream anglaise

Chef's offerings include 2 different soups, a lobster "nib", crunchy snack for the coffee (choc., jellied ginger and carmel corn) and box with truffles as a parting gift

Everything was memorable.

We arrived at 8:30 but the place was only half full. As I stand at the hostess stand, I peer into the dining room & comment how much I love the fact that in CA, even in the top restaurants, there's no specific dress code. We were dressed completely appropriate but I have a res. at Michel Richard Citronelle, a comparable restaurant in DC, and they require suit and tie. Now I look at the website and see that they DO request a jacket. I feel so silly.

After the fact, I guess it doesn't matter, we were still served with the utmost respect. But... even Danko's doesn't require jackets. I wish I had known.
