I was at Punjabi Tandoor in Hicksville recently and had Chicken Tikka Masala that was the best I've ever had there (which is saying a lot since they make an outstanding version in general). I also took a chance and ordered an off-menu item. I was in the mood for aloo chole (potatoes and chick peas) and asked if they made it. The woman in front was a bit confused, but after she ducked into the back one, of the cooks came out and said it would be no problem. It was great as their dishes usually are. Ask for spicy (or very spicy) when you order your dishes.

Lacha partha (layered whole wheat bread) and garlic nan are the best breads on the menu. This time I wised up and only ordered these two types of bread (2 of each for a party of 3) with no rice. The other breads and rice are all very good, so don't let me dissuade you from trying them, just be sure to try the garlic nan and lachaa paratha at some point. Mango lassi's had great ripe mango flavor.

We got Gulab Juman with mango ice cream as desert and I have to say that people greatly underestimate Indian deserts. Most people who try gulab juman go away with the notion that it's awful stuff and they're right. The way it's normally done it's sickeningly sweet with no nuance whatsoever. This version will make you rethink the whole genre of Indian deserts. I won't say that it's not sweet, becauase actually it's as sweet as any other version I've had. It's just that in this version there's a lightness that's missing in others. Also, you can taste cardamom and other flavors in the syrup. I probably hated this dish until I tried it here. I also would recomend the Rasmalai for similar reasons.
