So last night we finally got to eat at Proof (not just drink wine). We arrived at 5:30 and got our usual 2 end seats at the bar. We had a nice cheese board and i had a couple 'taste' sizes of pinot noir and pinot meuniere and hubby had a couple full glasses of big italian reds. They seated us on time, in a nice big booth as requested. I love the whole vibe of that place...the lighting, decor & setup is very relaxing and cool without being in your face. Anyway we ordered a nice bottle of Syrah which the waiter recommended. Perfect temp, decanted as requested. We both had arugula and feta/kalamata salads with an oil & vinegar type dressing. We both enjoyed them alot. The flat bread & yogurt they bring you was a nice accompaniment. Then i had the gnocchi (appetizer size was PLENTY big)...thanks to those of you who recommended it in another thread. It was delicious. The wild mushroom sauce was perfect w/ the potato flavor of the gnocchi. And the sauce wasn't overwhelmingly rich like you get sometimes. Hubby had the pork loin over some sort of risotto which he raved over. After having over half of my gnocchi packed to take home, we ordered dessert (it's nice being an adult isn't it??). Hubby had the chocolate bundt cake with ice cream and hazlenut mousse. I had the sorbet trio (grapefruit, pineapple, coconut) which was a perfect light finish. Service very attentive yet not obtrusive. The valet obligingly asked us if we needed a cab when we came out and hailed one immediately. All in all it was a very pleasant night and now i know why it's taken months to get a friday night res on Open Table. And wanted to also report that despite some conversation on another thread, it was NOT noisy in there. I mentioned the relative lack of a din to the waiter and he said the high backed booths block alot of the bar noise (although that bar is never as noisy as some other local hot spots) so i would suggest anyone who wants to have dinner and not shout ask for one of the high backed booths.
can't wait to return!
