The Herald News a month ago reported that Red Tang, a restaurant with a Chinatown connection, had opened, so we went there tonight in search of dishes beyond the standard Joliet-area Chinese stuff. I found one, and it was good: Grouper Filet w/ Egg Plant in Yu Shang Sauce. The menu description says the grouper is deep fried, but it wasn't, thankfully. The eggplant was nicely cut into finger-length strips and tasted fresh. The sauce was slightly, slightly sweet.
Other dishes not seen in these parts include Walnut Shrimp ("served with our chef's special creamy sauce above broccoli"), Baby Oyster with Hot Pepper Sauce, and several scallop dishes "served in an edible potato basket."
My wife and I were the only customers there tonight, yet the service was slow. But the food tasted fresh, even the rice, so it was worth it. The room is attractive, too.
