I've been going to a lot of Indian buffets lately, and have to give some love to Mehak in Berkeley in particular and Sahib in Richmond to a lesser extent. But I have a new favorite that just opened that is head and shoulders above the pack:
San Pablo near University in Berkeley
We went to their $6.99 lunch buffet last Saturday. Some of the ways it was best Indian buffet out there:
--not only is their free naan good, it comes with fresh masala dosa (crepe stuffed with potato and spices) - as much as you can eat
--*great* chicken tikka masala
--large salad/vegetable selection (although my one quibble is that the lettuce looked slightly wilted)
--best onion pakora ever
--*really* large selection of dishes
--very attentive service; always taking away old dishes and bringing more bread
I had more reasons but I can't remember them now. When we got back to our car after our lovely lunch there we discovered that someone had hit our parked car - with so much damage that it outweighs the Blue Book price. My first thought was that discovering Priya might STILL have been worth it!
Oh yeah - there's some coupons for their dinner buffet in the East Bay Express.
