Primal BBQ at Jammin Joe's in Warrenton, VA

Traveling South on Rte 29 from DC to Warrenton, Jammin Joe's is in a small mobile unit with a smoker on the right side of the road not long before hitting Warrenton.

This is primal BBQ, back to basics, and the reason why people smoke certain cuts of meat. The ribs (the call them St. Louis ribs) come out with an overpowering smoke flavor. They are good looking and tender. The strong smoke flavor does not stop them from being a delicious mess of food. No extra sauce or even final basting is done, just a plate full of heaping smokey ribs.

The beans are a MUST ORDER, and would be worth stopping by for even if you didn't want the meat. They are a mix of beans and diced pork in a classic sweet bbq sauce. Cole slaw is fresh, finely shredded, and tasty.

The pulled pork sandwich is not smokey at all. The pork is mild, no exterior crunch, rolled in a sauce either spicy or mild. I chose mild, and it lended only a bit of moistness. This was a very agreeable sandwich.
