Not too pricey Chinese feast?

Pointybird | Aug 25, 2004 03:27 PM

OK, I have a special meal coming up way too quickly -- this Saturday! Augh!! And I'm looking for a good place and have lots of caveats, so I need the genius minds of Chowers for help.

I'm entertaining a LA friend who loves roast duck, and we'd like a really festive and special meal for a table of 8-10 people. Delicious food is paramount, but I'd love a nice atmosphere too and a lot of delish Chinese places are like eating in a subway tunnel -- bad lighting, crowded, loud, etc. In addition, I was hoping the place could either be near the Triton Hotel (Financial District) or the Lumiere (what area is that -- Polk Gulch?) so places like Hong Kong Flower Lounge, a favorite, are more difficult to get to.

I thought of R&G Lounge first, but I have to admit that I tend to get better food and treatment there when eating with my Asian friends, and everyone at this dinner will be white. I hope I'm imagining this about R&G, but I don't think so. I'm now thinking of Brandy Ho, which is relatively festive, and has great smoked duck. Any other suggestions? Was Jai Yun good for a group? Help me, Hounds!
