I've been a huge fan of Saul since it opened but we noticed last night that prices there are now pretty much the same as at Eleven Madison Park, where we just had a truly exquisite meal. I think Saul's food is top notch but it's not in Manhattan and doesn't have the same level of service as EMP. Hmmmm. My fettucine was $21, my husband had a $36 sliced ribeye. One member of our party opted for the $30 prix fixe (appetizer, entree and dessert) and we were shocked when her salmon entree came out. I'd be surprised if it was more than 3 ounces of fish. We asked the waiter if it was a mistake and he said no, prix fixe portions are always smaller. Huh? We've done a lot of dining and never come across that one before. Total bill with tip was $230 (two members of our party each had one glass of wine, my husband and I had a bottle of Pellegrino) and yet we all left feeling vaguely hungry
I'm feeling a little disappointed here. Anyone else with me? We go to Saul probably every six weeks or so, but I'm starting to think we can do better. Anyone else been recently? Comments?
