There have been a number of media reports over the last week or so saying that the price of chocolate will escalate soon due to hostilities in the Ivory Coast, which exports about 40% of the world's chocolate.
Several of the European chocolate manufacturers with production facilities in the Ivory Coast are closed because their employees are not able to get to work (transportation is shut down). The chocolate buyers are not going out to the villages to purchase raw product. All sides have said they expect production to resume once the hostilities decrease, but who knows when.
Whatd'ya think? Prices increase just in time for Valentines Day?
