THe chicken soup post got me wondering about this. In Britain the price of butchers' meat is about a third less than supermarket meat, and far superior. In New Jersey (parents' house), the butcher is outrageously expensive--my very food focused, willing to shell out parents won't touch it with a barge pole. I was just wondering if my parents had especially yuppie butchers (new jersey is, after all, the home of the McMansion!) or if it was like that in other parts of the states.
I've included a link below to a new and fascinating book on meat. THis is a huge volume (i'm all too tempted to say 'meaty') I cant take my eyes off it every time I go to the bookshop.
