Prepared Mexican food in Houston?

Marcel | Mar 15, 2004 03:21 PM

Here's the situation:

I'm a NYer, visiting Houston and staying with a friend. We'll be hosting a small dinner party for a couple of other friends from NY. I thought, instead of cooking, it would be easier and more fun to get a bunch of stuff from Mexican butchers, groceries, etc.

This whole idea came from paging through old Robb Walsh articles, and seeing a reference to buying carnitas by the pound at Matamoros. Further comments on that place? Other good things to get there? Other recommendations for meats, homemade tortillas and salsas, tamales, anything else that can be brought home and reheated/immediately consumed? Ideally close enough to each other that my friend and I don't spend the whole day driving around town.

Thanks all.
