Pre-Theater Dinner Near Wash Sq

epicure-us | Oct 1, 200110:30 AM     6

I need a recommendation for a someplace in the Village to take my mom, along with 2 other family members for a birthday celebration this Friday. Should be 'nice' or at least festive (moderate to expensive-ish) but not too touristy (i.e., food is worth the price). My mom suggested Minetta Tavern, but she's never been there. The restaurant has to be within a few blocks walking distance of the northern edge or Washington Square Park. We all go for well-prepared vegetable, grain, pasta and salad dishes. One red meat-eater, two vegetarians and one fish and chicken person. High level desserts and/or cakes would be nice and info on wine list would help too. Any cuisine considered. Thank you.
