Pre-Marathon dinner

James B. Wang | Jul 21, 2003 10:50 PM

I will be visiting Chicago for the LaSalle Bank Marathon in October with my running group (10-15 people). The last two years I've had a hard time finding a place to eat the night before. This year I am trying to organize something for the group on the Saturday (trying to avoid the going from restaurant to restaurant only to end up at the hotel restaurant scenario) and since my restaurant knowledge of Chicago is pretty limited I'm asking for a bit of help. Could anyone recommend a place in the downtown area (we're all staying in different downtown hotels), would able to accommodate a large group (10-15), has decent food (pasta, or traditional meat, fish etc. but also suitable for vegetarians), and nice decor. As this will be a special weekend for us doing the marathon I am trying to find something nice. From my limited experience something similar in price / atmosphere to the Cheesecake Factory or the Weber Grill was what I was thinking. As much as I want to suggest going to Tru ;) (I'm actually eating at Trotter's on the Friday night to get my fine dinning fix) I think I need to come up with some other options. Any help / suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
