Located on Dupont just east of Davenport, this unassuming neighbourhood bistro doesnt know how to market itself, but is worth a visit. Holding about 25 in the small dining room and another 15 in the rear patio, youll feel far away from the sophisticated city.
Havent tried the evening menu which seems rooted in its Czech heritage, but the brunch is certainly a treat. The Eggs Bennie and variations are supplemented by a couple of Central European options (including REAL sausage) and requests for customization (e.g. egg-white omelette) are handled cheerfully. The coffee comes from an Espresso machine (no continual Bunn pots here) so refills are charged for, but the food is cooked from scratch and arrives piping hot and ungreasy. Very tasty even if the local hornets have taken a fancy to the food and attempt to share it with you.
The lunch menu is mostly open-face sandwiches at fair prices. Desserts (which we didnt try) are home made. And a game-burger is offered too.
This is the third incarnation (at least) in this location and by far the best. The interior is almost café like but dark. The patio is charming. About $30 for two for lunch/brunch.
